Dr. Daqing Ma, MD, PhD, is Macintosh Professor and Head of Anaesthesia Research of the Section of Anaesthetics, Pain Medicine & Intensive Care, Department of Surgery & Cancer, Faculty of Medicine, Imperial College London, and Chelsea and Westminster Hospital.
He has more than 160 publications of original articles being published in the English peer reviewed journals (e.g. PNAS, Annals of Neurology, Annals of Surgery, BMJ, JASN, Kidney International, The FASEB Journal, Annals of Surgery, Critical Care Medicine, Anesthesiology and etc.) covering research fields of Anesthesiology, Pharmacology, Neuroscience, Neurology and Nephrology, and two international patents. His main research interests are organoprotection, postoperative cognitive dysfunction, Cancer and Pain. Dr. Ma’s research has being supported with the grants from MRC, Alzheimer's Society-Bupa Foundation, BJA/RCoA, AAGBI, Westminster Medical School Research Trust, Action Medical Research and SPARKS, UK and European Society of Anesthesiology, Brussels. He is a regular invited reviewer for peer reviewed journals (> 50) including Annals of Neurology, Plos One, Anesthesiology, BJA, Anaesthesia & Analgesia, Neuroscience, JBFM, Critical Care Medicine, Critical Care, Stroke, Paediatric Research, Journal of Neurochemistry, Resuscitation and etc. He is a grant reviewer for Swiss National Science Foundation, The Ministry of Science, Education, Sports of the Republic of Croatia and NSFC, China and Wellcome Trust, UK. He has been supervising more than 16 PhD/MD students (11/16 received a PhD degree and others’ study is ongoing).
He is Fellow elect holder of Royal College of Anaesthetists. He is a Board Member of British Journal of Anaesthesia and a council member of Anaesthetic Research Society (UK). He is an Academic Editor of PLoS One and Associate Editor of Journal Alzheimer Disease. He is also an expert panel member of French Evaluation Agency for Research and Higher Eduction (AERES), France. He is an editorial member of Journal of Clinical Anesthesiology, Forum Anaesthesia & Monitoring and Chinese Journal of Anesthesiology and is a regular overseas consultant of Chinese Society of Anaesthesiology. He is also vice president of Chinese Life Scientists Society of UK. Dr. Ma’s research has been recognized by public media including BBC andf the news paper of Telegraph and Times.
